Saskatoon man, Stephen Webster, killed in bus crash in Africa

A fundraising campaign has been launched in Saskatoon after new reports that a Saskatoon man has been killed in a bus accident in Africa.

According to the preamble for the online campaign Stephen Webster was killed in an accident while travelling with his partner in Africa. It goes on to say that Stephen's wife Colette Webster survived the crash, and that funds are being raised to support health care and funeral costs.

The online posting covers Webster's career as a driver, and a manager with Saskatoon Transit. Earlier this week Trevor Bell the acting director of Saskatoon Transit circulated the following email to staff.

"Saskatoon Transit extends its condolences to the family and friends of Stephen Webster. Stephen was a respected member of our team and a dedicated Service Supervisor who was committed to creating an environment of excellent customer service."

CBC News contacted Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, but so far, the federal department has offered no information on the crash.

The Saskatoon Star Phoenix newspaper is reporting that family members are now on their way to Gaborone, Botswana, to be with Colette.
