Saskatoon rescue crews search river for man

Saskatoon's water and dive rescue teams were called into action Saturday afternoon after reports that a man went into the river.

Crews were called to the South Saskatchewan river near the 100 block of Whiteswan Drive at about 3:30 p.m. CST.

Police said they received a report that a 60-year-old man may have entered the river. Police said the man's shoe tracks led to the river and off the end of the ice.

Crews spent nearly two hours searching the water and the shoreline, but didn't find the man. A strong current, surface ice, snow-covered river banks and cold temperatures made the search difficult.

Search crews said they will monitor the river's conditions before continuing the search on Sunday.
