Satellite should speed up internet at Buchans school, says board

Students in Buchans should be getting faster Internet now that the English School District has sent a satellite to Lakeside Academy to beef up a slow network connection.

Level II students complained to CBC last week, fearing the slow service would make it hard to complete distance education courses in subjects such as physics and French.

The school district says there are often problems at the start of a new school year, and it's monitoring the results after sending a satellite to the school.

In an email to CBC, the school district said "Lakeside Academy is also scheduled to be added to our high-speed network before the end of the current school year."

"We are also working collaboratively with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development on our connectivity, particularly with respect to the CDLI," (Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation) the statement said.

78 students attend Lakeside Academy, from Kindergarten to Level III.
