Lennie James has opened up about the biggest changes between Save Me Too and its first series.

The Fear the Walking Dead actor returns from the zombie apocalypse to revisit the saga of Nelly Rowe, now 17 months into his latest search to find his long-lost daughter Jody.

This time around, Nelly's womanising ways have him distracted by the plight of the vulnerable young Grace — but any clues she might have about Jody's fate could prove more dangerous than they are worth.

While recently speaking to Digital Spy and other media, James opened up about how Nelly has changed in the long gap between seasons.

"Save Me Too became much more about when the cameras are turned off, when everybody's gone back to their normal lives, when people close to Nelly are starting to find a way to try and say to him maybe it's not worth going on anymore and maybe you should give up," he explained.

"And what do you do then? What does that moment look like? What does that period look like for Nelly and for Claire and for Barry? And who are the people left waking up every morning thinking of Jody and going to bed every night thinking of Jody still?"

The star continued: "We finished the first six [episodes]...on a note of Nelly didn't find his kid but he found somebody else's kid.

"And, over the next six, I really wanted to explore what responsibility Nelly had for the life that he had saved and how the life that he had saved, his relationship with Grace, what effect that would have on his continued quest to try and find Jody."

Save Me Too airs on Wednesdays at 9pm on Sky Atlantic. The full series is now available on Sky on Demand and NOW TV.
