SC Congressman Joe Wilson stable after suffering stroke-like symptoms, his office says

U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-Springdale, collapsed during an event in Washington, D.C. Tuesday and was taken to an area hospital, the congressman’s campaign confirmed to The State.

Wilson’s son, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, posted on X that his father “experienced stroke-like symptoms.”

“I was able to speak with him moments ago and I am incredibly thankful that he is stable and being monitored by medical professionals,” Alan Wilson posted Tuesday night on X.

Joe Wilson’s wife, Roxanne, is at the hospital with her husband, Alan Wilson said.

“The congressman continues to be evaluated by medical staff and he is stable,” Wilson spokesman David Snider told The State.

According to a Republican strategist close to the family, Wilson’s condition is in a “good spot.”

Alan Wilson’s office also said the attorney general was not planning to rush up to D.C., keeping his previously set schedule.

Wilson, 77, has been in Congress since 2001 and previously served in the South Carolina state Senate.

The Republican currently serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he is the chair of the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia Subcommittee and a member of the Subcommittee on Europe.
