School crossing guard gets hit by a truck, injured in Monroe County, deputies say
A school crossing guard was hit by a truck while working in Monroe County Wednesday morning, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The crossing guard was directing traffic on Thorton Road in front of TG Scott Elementary School “when the truck’s right bumper struck the left side of her body,” a media release from the sheriff’s office said. Deputies were dispatched to the scene around 7:30 a.m.
The driver told deputies “the sun was directly in his eyes, and he did not see (the crossing guard) until he hit her,” the sheriff’s office said.
The woman was taken to a Macon hospital with non-life threatening injuries, deputies said.
Charges aren’t expected to be filed, according to the sheriff’s office.
