Schools closed as freezing rain falls in parts of southern Quebec

Mix of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain descends on Montreal

A freezing rain warning has ended for the Montreal area, but it's still in effect for parts of southern Quebec.

The freezing rain will fall for most of the morning in the Laurentians, Eastern Townships and Lanaudière region and stop by the early afternoon. In Quebec City, freezing rain is expected to begin this evening.

Environment Canada said two to 10 millimetres of freezing rain are expected north of the St. Lawrence River and lesser amounts south of it.

The weather has already led to the closing of the following schools in the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board:

- Arundel Elementary School.

- Ste-Agathe Academy.

- Joliette Elementary School.

- Joliette High School.

- Rawdon Elementary School.

Collège Esther-Blondin, Académie Antoine-Manseau and Commission Scolaire des Samares schools, all in the Lanaudière region, are also closed for the day.

CBC Montreal wants your great photos of the city. The best pictures of the day will be used on CBC Montreal News at 6 p.m. and on our website.
