Schwarzenegger drops into Zoom meeting to donate $250,000 for Texas county election

Arnold Schwarzenegger has donated more than $250,000 to fund voting “super centers” for the election in a Texas county.

The actor and former California governor joined a Zoom video meeting of Cameron County officials to announce the grant intended to boost voter access and polling operations. The donation is part of an effort through the USC Schwarzenegger Institute to increase voter turnout in the 2020 election.

The South Texas county is the first in the U.S. to receive the grant. It will fund two election “super centers” with the ability to provide access for 20,000 to 24,000 voters in the county, Schwarzenegger said. The sites will provide curbside voting and indoor polling places, officials said.

Schwarzenegger said the initiative is intended to prevent Americans from losing their ability to vote due to lack of funding for polling centers.

“Every dollar that I have made in my life is because of America,” Schwarzenegger said during the meeting. “I’m very happy that I can invest in something like that because as I said it’s the greatest investment that you can make — is to open up polling stations and let everyone participate in our democracy.”
