Scotian Homes goes into receivership

Scotian Homes receivership leaves contractors unpaid

The company that operates both Scotian Homes and the Enfield Home Hardware Building Centre in Nova Scotia has gone into receivership.

Ernst and Young confirmed Tuesday they have been appointed receivers and were in meetings with owner Suzanne Bona.

Scotian Homes had a 50 year history in Nova Scotia, starting with the store Enfield Hardware, the company's website states.

The company's hardware store was also closed Tuesday.

Scotian Homes won numerous awards over the years, having been named R-2000 Builder of the decade in 1996 and featured at the Halifax G-7 Summit.

According to the Enfield Home Hardware website, the store was opened in 1946 by Maurice Horne. It sold dry goods and children's wear. Hardware was added to the stock in 1958.

Bob Bona was hired at the store as a young man in the 1960s.

The store started selling building supplies in the 1970s and Scotian Homes was formed.

Suzanne Bona joined the company in the 1990s after graduating from St. Francis Xavier University.

Suzanne Bona could not be reached for comment.
