SDG County plow purchase early this year

·1 min read

CORNWALL – Looking to lock in prices for next year, SDG Counties accepted the tender for a new snowplow early, in preparation for the 2022 budget.

Cornwall Freightliner’s $134,985 bid was the lower of two bidders for the cab and chassis of the new snowplow trucks. Gin-Cor Industries will supply the plow and spreader equipment at a cost of $149,920. The combined equipment buy is $95 below the planned $285,000 budget ask in the 2022 budget. Budget deliberations will take place in early December.

Council approved seeking the tender early as global supply chain issues have made buying new equipment both more expensive, and harder to get. SDG councillors also approved the tender.

Part of the long-term asset management plan for the county transportation department is to replace one snowplow each year. SDG has a fleet of 16 plows on the road during the winter, with four more older plows in reserve.
