Passengers relying on the ferry to Wolfe Island near Kingston, Ont., should expect delays as police investigate an early morning home invasion and search for a suspect who allegedly assaulted the homeowner.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say their Leeds detachment received reports about the incident shortly after 4 a.m.

OPP say the suspect left the residence and hasn't been located. They say a potential risk to public safety remains.

In a news release, OPP warn residents to ensure doors and windows are locked, and to be aware of their surroundings.

The Wolfe Island Ferry Service says it's operating under the direction of OPP, who are telling the public to expect major delays and possible service interruptions.
