Sebastian Stan Becomes Donald Trump in First Trailer for Provocative Origin Story “The Apprentice”

Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong and Maria Bakalova star in the buzzy new drama about a young Donald Trump

Sebastian Stan transforms into a young Donald Trump in the first trailer for The Apprentice.

In the drama, the actor, 42, portrays Trump, 78, during an era decades before his presidency.

The Apprentice also stars Oscar-nominated Borat 2 actress Maria Bakalova as Ivana Trump, who died in 2022, plus Succession star Jeremy Strong as lawyer Roy Cohn, who died in 1986.

According to a synopsis, "A young Donald Trump (Stan), eager to make his name as a hungry second son of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn (Strong), the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today."

"Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé — someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win."

Directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman, The Apprentice began filming in November 2023. The following month, Stan could be seen wearing a suit, tie and long black coat as he sat on a bench while donning a wig on the set of the movie in New York City.

The Marvel actor previously played Tommy Lee opposite Lily James as Pamela Anderson in Hulu's 2022 Pam & Tommy series.

The Apprentice title, of course, mirrors that of the reality show Trump starred on for NBC, which ran for 15 seasons from 2004 to 2017.

After The Apprentice has its world premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival, Steven Cheung, a communications director for the Trump campaign, said in a statement that they would “address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers" that are in the film.

The Apprentice is in theaters Oct. 11.
