Police have charged a second person in connection to the January 2020 death of twenty-six-year-old Braeden Sparvier.

Twobears Bird, 22, of Onion Lake Cree Nation, was arrested in Prince Albert in February 2021 and charged with accessory to murder. His first court appearance was in Prince Albert Provincial Court and the matter has been moved to Lloydminster Provincial Court. His next appearance is set for April 1 to speak to the matter.

According to Turtleford RCMP, Sparvier’s body was found east of St. Walburg in the R.M. of Frenchman Butte on Jan. 1, 2020. Onion Lake RCMP and specialized RCMP units assisted in the investigation, which determined that Sparvier’s death was a homicide.

Prince Albert RCMP and RCMP Major Crimes Unit North arrested Shari Heathen, 27, of Onion Lake Cree Nation on July 16, 2020.

Heathen’s lawyer is in discussions with the Crown about a possible resolution. Lawyer Blaine Beaven told Lloydminster Provincial Court on March 8 that he made a proposal to the Crown. Heathen’s matter was adjourned to April 6.
