While hundreds of Quebecers found themselves without a home after Moving Day on July 1, the housing crunch is taking its toll on another group this year. Montreal's SPCA says it took in about 600 animals in the past three months from renters who said they couldn't take their animals with them because their new building doesn't allow pets. "It's something we see every year," said the shelter's executive director Elise Desaulniers. She said the number of surrendered animals during this year's movi

JERUSALEM (Reuters) -Lebanon's Hezbollah said on Saturday it had sent three unarmed drones towards an Israeli Mediterranean gas rig, which the Israeli military said it had intercepted. There was no immediate response from Lebanese authorities to the incident, which came amid tensions over the location of the Israeli rig and long-standing but so-far fruitless U.S.-mediated efforts to agree on a maritime border. Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz said Hezbollah was "preventing the state of Lebanon from reaching an agreement regarding maritime borders, which are critical to the economy and prosperity of the Lebanese nation".
A Charlottetown resident says she's relieved to be reunited with her parrot after the bird went on a little escapade in the city's downtown during Canada Day. Crystal Tobin lets Yoshi out of his cage whenever she's at home so the one-year-old, green-cheeked parakeet can spread its wings. This wasn't a problem until Friday, when she realized she had left her phone in her car after coming back from a grocery run. "I have a perch in the bathroom for him because he looks at himself in the mirror all

TRIPOLI (Reuters) -Libyan protesters will keep demonstrating until all the ruling elites quit power, they said on Saturday, after rallies in most main cities on Friday culminated in a crowd storming the parliament building and torching parts of it. The protest movement said it would step up its campaign from Sunday, urging demonstrators to set up tents in city squares and practise civil disobedience until they achieve their goal of ousting political institutions and holding new elections. Security vehicles surrounded government buildings in the capital after sunset on Saturday and there was no sign of new protests after Friday's rallies demanding change.
There's no word on when a grocery store in Kentville, N.S., will reopen after a fire Friday afternoon left the front of the building damaged. Hamilton said firefighters found heavy smoke around pillars at the front of the building. He said the fire travelled up one of the pillars to the roof. The store was closed for Canada Day.
The U.S. Supreme Court last week voted 6-3 to overturn the Roe v. Prince Edward Island was long considered Canada's most pro-life province, and the Island's abortion politics have a long and fraught history. Here's a look back at the evolution of abortion rights on P.E.I. Decriminalization Abortion in Canada was formally banned in

Spokespeople for animal rescue and rights groups say they are upset with a Canadian Food Inspection Agency decision to ban the entry of "commercial dogs" into Canada from countries at risk of dog rabies. Jeffrey Beri, founder of No Dogs Left Behind, a dog rescue group, said the decision is terrible news. He said his group has saved 300 dogs from Afghanistan and East Asia since the start of the year. "It's a devastating blow to rescue and it literally shuts the doors on survivors that were destin
