See ‘most beautiful’ California coastal estate with vineyards, Tuscan vibe: $19.9M

Prancing Horse Estate on the central California coast was one of the most beautiful homes his family had ever seen — and that was before the property’s 12.5 acres underwent a massive landscaping, Michael Smith told a national newspaper.

Smith, a financier and energy business executive, initially put the property on the market in 2020 during the pandemic. The resort-like compound with its coral-colored, Tuscan-style main residence was recently listed again for $19.985 million.

The equestrian property lies between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean at 6858 Casitas Pass Road, Carpinteria, California.

Designed by architect Don Nulty, the main residence of nearly 11,000 square feet has seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.

“The home itself was one of the most beautiful homes we had ever seen,” Smith told the Wall Street Journal in 2020. “It was too beautiful to change.”

He bought the home in 2015 for $7.25 million, according to public record, and then set about transforming the grounds.

Now, Prancing Horse Estate has two acres of Grenache and Pinot Noir vineyards, horse-riding facilities, a detached guest house, ornamental lake, infinity pool and expansive lawns.

If those aren’t enough features to create jealousy among the many celebrities who have bought nearby properties — including Kourtney Kardashian and Ellen Degeneres — then maybe these additional amenities are:

Basketball court

Rooftop fitness pavilion

Showcase garage

Citrus groves

Formal and meditation gardens

Koi ponds

Two private wells.

Large motor court

The guest house contains an office/media room and self-contained suite “draped in scarlet bougainvillea,” according to the official property site.
