Selena Gomez Posted a Single Emoji in Response to Her History-Making Emmy Nominations
Congratulations are in order for Selena Gomez, who made history today with her Emmy nominations. The Only Murders in the Building actress received her very first Best Actress in a Comedy Series nomination, marking a new milestone in Gomez’s career. Naturally, she called out the honor on her Instagram Story, sharing a single emoji—a smiley face with a tear—to convey her joy.
Only Murders in the Building is also up for Outstanding Comedy Series, and Gomez is included in the nominated group for her work as an executive producer on the show. The series (and Gomez) were also nominated in this category in 2022 and 2023.
This makes Gomez the most nominated Latina producer in Emmys history, per Deadline. Gomez’s Emmy nods come after the star won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival this May, along with her Emilia Pérez co-stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofia Gascón, and Adriana Paz. Gomez posted her reaction when she learned the news, writing,“I’m so excited!”
Gomez spoke to Rolling Stone in March about shifting her focus from music to acting. “I think it’s natural for people to take breaks, but I think for me, there is a whole other aspect to my life, pride and joy,” she said. “I love film. I love TV. I just feel like I haven’t done a lot of the things that I want to do in that space. It’s not that it’s ‘no, never’ [to music], it’s more that I would like to explore that world a bit more and have the time to actually do that.”
“[In the acting world], I love being able to take roles that I have to fight for, not the ones that are being handed to me,” she added. “I’m going for the stuff that really, really inspires me.”
