Selena Gomez has shared a picture of herself in a swimsuit that reveals her kidney transplant scar, saying she is “proud” of who she is and what she has been through.

The Wizards Of Waverly Place star, 28, received the kidney from her friend Francia Raisa three years ago.

Gomez - who needed the transplant as a result of her struggle with autoimmune disease lupus – said she is now feeling confident in herself so she decided to share the image showing the scar on her thigh.

“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar,” said the actress and singer, who was wearing a blue swimming costume from the brand La’Mariette.

“I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up.

“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through... and I’m proud of that.”

“T - Congratulations on what you’re doing for women, launching @lamariette whose message is just that... all bodies are beautiful,” she added, presumably addressing the brand’s co-founder Theresa Mingus.

Gomez received her transplant in 2017.

Afterwards she shared a photo of herself and Raisa holding hands in their adjoining hospital beds, as she said her friend gave her “the ultimate gift and sacrifice”.
