Selkirk police chase down driver of crashed stolen truck

3-vehicle crash in Winnipeg Beach leaves people with minor injuries

RCMP have arrested a man they say stole a truck, crashed it and then left two injured passengers behind as he fled the scene on foot.

Police say it all started during a simple traffic stop about 1:10 a.m. on Saturday morning in East Selkirk.

Traffic police noticed a stolen truck driving northbound on Highway 9 speeding and driving without tail lights, police said.

Officers asked the driver to turn the truck off, but instead he drove off.

Late that morning, around 3 a.m., police caught up with the truck after finding it crashed in a ditch along Ferry Road.

The driver got out of the truck and ran, leaving two injured passengers behind.

A 37-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries while a 36-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries, said RCMP.

The 26-year-old male driver who had fled was later arrested and charged with fleeing police and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, among other charges.
