Senators honour late goaltender Ray Emery
Former NHL goaltender Ray Emery died in a swimming accident near Hamilton, Ontario just a couple months ago, and on Monday one of his former teams, the Ottawa Senators, honoured the memory of one of the franchise’s most beloved players.
The minute-long tribute video was broadcasted on the centre-ice scoreboard during a stoppage in play against the Dallas Stars — where Emery’s good friend and former Teammate Jason Spezza currently plays.

Emery played five seasons with Spezza in Ottawa and the two were notoriously tight on and off the ice. Spezza, who had Emery in his groom party at his wedding in 2009, was understandably visibly shaken during the playing of the video.
Earlier on Monday, he expressed gratitude for the Senators’ decision to honour Emery and briefly explained how Emery impacted his life (and that of many others) for the better.

Emery spent 11 seasons in the NHL with the Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks — where he won a Stanley Cup in 2013.
