A man has died after slipping and falling from a cliff in West Vancouver's Lighthouse Park on Tuesday.

Police were called after people in the park found the man's personal belongings at the top of the cliff around 7 p.m., just before sunset. Officers searched the area and found a 70-year-old man's body at sea level.

Officers believe the man lost his footing on the rocky cliff near the shoreline and fell more than nine metres.

"It appears as though this was a tragic accident," said Const. Kevin Goodmurphy.
