Greenbank Road reopened after fatal crash Saturday morning

Police are hoping for witnesses to come forward after a Saturday morning crash on Greenbank Road left a 54-year-old man dead.

The two-vehicle collision happened on Greenbank between West Hunt Club and Fallowfield roads just before 7:15 a.m. Saturday.

Tow truck driver Cory Legue arrived on the scene while police were investigating. The man was still trapped inside the car. He and another tow truck driver flipped the car so firefighters could remove the body.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, paramedics said.

His identity is not being released at the request of his family, police said.

The other vehicle involved in the crash was a Toyota Tundra pickup truck towing a small trailer. The 26-year-old man driving the truck was not hurt and did not need to be taken to hospital, paramedics said.

Both vehicles were traveling north along Greenbank when the man driving the Cougar tried to pass the pickup truck, police said in a media release issued Sunday.

The car then clipped the truck, resulting in the driver of the Cougar losing control of the car, police said.

The Ottawa police collisions unit is investigating.
