Residents who want to learn more about work underway to prevent and tackle wildfires on Gabriola can attend an information session scheduled for Aug. 26.
Regional District of Nanaimo emergency services is hosting a talk about community wildfire resiliency plans (CWRP), which it is currently developing for all seven electoral areas. Each plan follows a community wildfire resiliency planning framework developed by BC Wildfire Service and the BC FireSmart Committee. The plans are meant to increase community capacity and understanding of wildfire risks specific to areas as well as develop achievable and accountable action items, among other goals.
The plan for Electoral Area B will replace the community wildfire protection plan that was implemented in 2008.
The RDN’s information session is meant to give residents an overview of the process of developing the CWRPs. The virtual session starts a 7 p.m.; registration is through getinvolved.rdn.ca/rdn-wildfire-resiliency.
