Seven More Deaths in Saskatchewan

The daily update from the Saskatchewan government reveals that another 336 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the province. New cases have been recorded in all 13 of the provincial zones while 223 more individuals have been deemed recovered the total number of active cases in the province has surpassed 3,000 with today’s totals bringing it to 3,053. The seven-day average of new cases has risen again and is now at 262 which breaks down to 21.6 new cases per 100,000 people. Seven more Saskatchewan residents who tested positive for the COVID-19 virus have died. One individual in the North Central zone in the 80+ age group has died as well as one in the South East zone and one in Regina. One resident in the 60-69 age group and another in the 70-79 age group have also passed away in Regina and one person in the 30-39 age group has died in the South East zone.

Today one hundred and eighty (180) people are in the hospital of which twenty-six (26) are in intensive care: two in the North West, four in North Central, eight in Saskatoon, one in Central East and eleven in Regina.

On January 7th 3,105 COVID-19 tests were processed which is the highest number to date. Further statistics on the breakdown of cases among health care workers, total tests to date and per capita testing as well as a breakdown of cases by source of infection, age, sex, and region can be found on the Government of Saskatchewan website.

As of January 8, a total of 6,015 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Saskatchewan, with nearly 1,200 delivered in the last twenty-four hours. This includes 2,069 Pfizer doses and 815 second doses in the Regina pilot program; 2,627 Pfizer doses in Saskatoon; 160 Pfizer doses in Prince Albert; and 344 Moderna doses in the Far North West zone.
