Severe storms cross Saskatchewan, 4 tornadoes confirmed

Four tornadoes have been confirmed after severe storms swept across Saskatchewan Friday night.

Tornadoes occurred near Watson, the town of Quill Lake, Fishing Lake and between Wapella and Rocanville, according to Environment Canada.

Residents in Outlook woke up Saturday morning to splintered trees - some, right next to their houses.

"We've had a few storms over the years, but nothing like this. That's once every 25 years, I hope," said Simpson Street resident Marina Matlock.

Three trees on Matlock's property snapped in half in the storm, and a large, 40-year-old tree fell and blocked the street from her next-door neighbour's home.

Matlock estimates winds in the Outlook area were close to 80 kilometres per hour.

In addition, large hail also pounded parts of the province, with toonie-sized hail falling at Grenfell.

At North Battleford, winds gusts reached speeds of over 90 kilometres per hour.
