Severe thunderstorms possible in northeastern Manitoba

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of northeastern Manitoba.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain, Environment Canada said.

"A cold front passing through northeastern Manitoba this afternoon will encounter a warm, humid and unstable airmass as it passes through," states the weather agency's alert.

"As a result, thunderstorms will develop along the front, with some of these thunderstorms possibly becoming severe. Thunderstorms will begin to weaken by late afternoon or early evening as cooler air develops behind the front."

The watch has been issued for:

- Gillam.

- Island Lake.

- Oxford House.

- Gods Lake.

- Shamattawa.
