Severe wind warning issued for Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba

Parts of Manitoba are about to get walloped by gale-force winds.

The province has issued a severe wind warning for the south basins of Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba on Wednesday.

Winds from the northwest are expected to pick up speed and could gust to between 50 to 65 km/h on Wednesday afternoon.

Lake Winnipeg's south basin is currently sitting at 714.46 feet above sea level. Lake Manitoba is at 812.62 feet above sea level.

The province said with the high winds and big waves, those water levels could rise by five feet or more along the south shores of both lakes.

Residents in the area have been asked to take the proper precautions and prepare for the winds.
