Shakira Says Her Son Milan, 11, Processed Her Split from Gerard Piqué Through Music: 'His Therapy'
The musician shares her boys with ex Gerard Piqué
Shakira's love for music is being passed down to her boys.
During a new interview with Zane Lowe, the musician, 47, shared that her sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9, have taken a strong interest in music. Noting that her sons know that music is "one of my ways to heal and to express myself," Shakira adds that Milan has started to create his own music.
"I remember he wrote two beautiful songs during the whole separation process," she says, referencing her split from Gerard Piqué, with whom she shares her two boys. "He wrote two songs on piano and lyrics. And whenever he feels a little down, he goes to the piano and he writes."

"And that also is his catharsis, his therapy. I think he's probably going to be a producer, but he's obsessed with football," the proud mom says.
The artist adds that she and her sons "share a love for music" and "sometimes we jam together."
"Sasha is learning how to play guitar and Milan is a really cool drummer and so he gets on the drums, Sash on guitar, I sing, and we jam at home."
In September, Shakira spoke to Billboard about how she's been acclimating to being a single mom and a world-famous musician.
"Sometimes I think being a single mom and the rhythm of being a pop star aren't compatible," she said. "I have to put my kids to bed, go to the recording studio; everything is uphill."
"When you don't have a husband who can stay home with the kids, it's constant juggling because I like to be a present mom and I need to be there every moment with my children: take them to school, have breakfast with them, take them to playdates. And aside from that, I have to make money."
Since separating from Piqué, Shakira has said that she is doing all that she can to "conceal" the situation from her kids. "I try to do it and to protect them, because that's my number one mission in life," she previously told ELLE.
At the same time, she's been adamant about giving her sons as normal of a life as possible.
"I can't deny they can't escape the reality that I'm a public person, as well as their dad," Shakira told ET Canada in 2021. "But we try to provide as much normalcy as we can, and live really as very simple people."
