Shane Daye named as Suncor employee killed on the job

The worker killed at Suncor Energy’s Fort McMurray site on Sunday has been identified by his family as Shane Daye, 27.

In a statement released to the media on Wednesday, Christie Daye described her brother as a “positive and outgoing force” in her family’s life.

“We are devastated by the loss of Shane,” she said. “ We will miss his smile and his energy. We will miss him bounding up the stairs and lighting up a room.”

Daye was working on Sunday when he was severely injured around 11:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead after he was taken to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre in Fort McMurray.

In her statement, Christie Daye said that Shane was an instrumentation technician who had just received his journeyman electrician ticket.

Daye was born and raised in Fort McMurray and had worked at Suncor for seven years.
