Shawn Richard's death leads to charges, but police say victim was suspect in 2nd murder

A man found dead in the middle of a street in central Edmonton has been confirmed as the city's latest homicide victim.

Shawn Richard, 32, was stabbed in the chest.

His body was found Monday morning on 95th Street, just north of 117th Avenue.

Staff Sgt. Bill Clark said Richard was stabbed in a fight on 117th Avenue and staggered to the spot where he collapsed and died. He lived a few blocks away.

Clark said Richard sold drugs and was known to police.

"Unfortunately his choice of lifestyle may have led to this event," he said.

Police are now searching for the driver of a new black pick-up truck parked nearby. Clark said the man is not a suspect. Police believe he may have witnessed the stabbing and want to talk to him about what he saw.

Clark said police are also looking for about four or five teens or young adults who were also witnesses.

"We know there were some people really close to the area who could probably provide some valuable information to our investigation," he said. "We'd really like those people to come forward and get hold of us."

Anyone wiih information is encouraged to contact Edmonton police or Crimestoppers.
