Shooting at Elizabeth Canty Homes in Columbus leaves one woman dead, authorities say

A woman is dead following a shooting Wednesday night in Columbus, according to authorities.

The Columbus Police Department said officers were dispatched at 8:34 p.m. Wednesday to 200 20th Ave., Elizabeth Canty Homes, concerning a shooting.

Responding officers discovered a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The victim has been identified as Sekedra McCoy, 38, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Bryan said McCoy was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m. at a local hospital.

CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit took lead on the investigation, according to the news release.
