Murder suspect fatally shot himself after chase that shut down I-35W, Fort Worth police say

Officers responded to the scene in the 2900 block of Buckskin Run at around 4:45 p.m. after receiving a report that a person had been shot, police said.

Two people, including the suspect, are dead in an apparent murder-suicide after a shooting and subsequent chase Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth, officials with the Fort Worth Police Department said.

Officers responded to a west Fort Worth apartment complex in the 2900 block of Buckskin Run at around 4:45 p.m. after receiving a report that a person had been shot, police said.

Police located the victim, who had been shot multiple times, in a parking lot in the 9200 block of North Normandale Street, officials said.

The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and she later died from her injuries, according to a police statement.

The suspect was located at around 5:52 p.m. and led police on a chase down the southbound I-35W freeway near Heritage Trace Parkway, police said.

The chase ended after the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop. Police believe the suspect fatally shot himself, officials said.

The incident closed all lanes of traffic on the freeway for a period of time Saturday evening, police told the Star-Telegram.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the suspect as 49-year-old Arthur Joseph Vasquez of Roanoke.

No officers fired their weapons and no one else was injured, according to a police statement.

Officials with the Fort Worth Police Department’s Homicide and Major Case units are investigating, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the victim once next of kin have been notified.
