This short pass from Patrick Mahomes to Rashee Rice proved to be big play for Chiefs
One week after being kept out of the end zone, the Chiefs offense scored with in the first three minutes of Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany.
However, the Chiefs gained a mere 31 total yards on their next three drives, each of which ended with a punt.
Holding a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, the Chiefs got the ball on their own 5-yard line and their first two plays picked up just 5 yards. A fourth straight punt seemed like a real possibility, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes connected with Rashee Rice on a 6-yard completion for a first down.
That seemed to spur the offense, which got into a rhythm and ended up scoring on a touchdown that capped a 95-yard drive. The only other third-down play on the drive came when Mahomes threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jerick McKinnon.
“To be honest, I’m just ready for any opportunity, any moment,” Rice said in an interview on KSHB (Ch. 41) after the game. “I think Pat knows that I’m going to be ready to execute.”
Rice certainly was ready on this play, which proved to be big for the Chiefs. It was a nice catch and wasn’t an easy one to make. More importantly, had it been incomplete, the Dolphins would have gotten the ball.

The touchdown drive put the Chiefs up 14-0 and they added that amazing defensive score that proved to be enough points to beat the Dolphins.
