Shots fired in Carlington area should lead to charges, police say

Ottawa police say three persons of interest are in custody after reports of shots fired near Carlington Park.

Police received several 911 calls stating gunshots were fired at about 6:55 a.m. on Morisset Avenue near Caldwell Avenue.

Officers arrived and found one victim inside 1416 Morisset Ave. with injuries to his face suffered after he was allegedly struck with a broken bottle.

Ottawa police Insp. Mike Maloney said the victim was robbed by three suspects and assaulted while at a party inside that home.

Maloney said officers then found shell casings from bullets along the road between 1416 Morisset and the home across the street, 1411 Morisset, where they later found the three men.

Gun not found, but warrants issued

There are witnesses who spoke to police and charges are expected to be laid in relation to the alleged assault, robbery and shots fired, Maloney added. A gun has not yet been found but warrants were set to be issued for both addresses involved.

The force's guns and gangs unit is investigating because a gun was involved but police have not said whether the incident is gang-related.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ottawa police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477.

This is the third reported case of shots fired in Ottawa in 2015.

On Jan. 10, a man was shot in the back twice on Riga Private in the Ritchie neighbourhood. That was considered gang-related. On Jan. 15, police investigated a report of shots fired into a home in the city's Overbrook neighbourhood.
