Sideral to Distribute in Spain Enrique Buleo’s Malaga Player ‘Still Life with Ghosts’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Sideral, the Madrid-based integrated production-distribution-sales label, has acquired Spanish distribution rights to Enrique Buleo’s black comedy film “Bodegón con fantasmas” (“Still Life with Ghosts”), one of the six films playing at Málaga’s WIP España sidebar.
Buleo’s first feature, “Still Life with Ghosts” has been produced by Alejandra Mora at Valencia’s Quatre Films (“Tehran Blues,” “An Elephant on a Spider Web”) and Juan Cavestany’s Cuidado con el Perro, the production house behind Movistar Plus’ series “Sentimos las molestias” and feature “Un efecto óptico.”

“Still Life with Ghosts” narrates with absurdist humor and magical realism five different intertwined stories about ghosts and living inhabitants in a small town in Spain’s Castilla-La Mancha region. They feel anguished by the troubles and predicaments of life and death, but do everything possible to solve them.
The film counts on the support of Spain’s ICAA film institute, Valencia’s Culture institute, Media Europe, and the participation of Valencian pubcaster À Punt Media, Castilla-La Mancha Media and tourism promotion entity Eturia CLM.
“We look for fresh, fun and original films, and ‘Still Life with Ghosts’ is all of that,” said María Oliva, distribution and communication responsible at Sideral.
“Since we learned about the project at its development stage, we wanted to be able to reach this deal. Now that we have done it, we are looking forward to sharing it with the audience,” she added.
Sideral plans a theatrical release of the film in Spain during this year.
The presence at Málaga’s WIP España, a selection of six Spanish films in post-production, culminates for “Still Life with Ghosts” an extensive tour of prestigious film labs and forums in which it participated as a project, such as Madrid’s ECAM La Incubadora-The Screen, EWA Producers Mentoring, Toronto Film Market Lab and Cannes’ Focus Copro, winning prizes at Trieste’s When East Meets West and Albacete’s Abycine Lanza.
The film also formed part of a selection of Spanish titles at Cannes Film Market’s Producers Under the Spotlight program and Berlin EFM Visitors program, backed by ICEX and ICAA.
The current 27th edition of the Malaga Film Festival also hosts the screening of three further movies related to Sideral: Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodríguez’s big buzz feature “Saturn Return” and Sonia Méndez’s anticipated “As Neves” (“The Snows”), both competing in Malaga’s Official Section, and the special screening of Alejo Levis’ “Hate Song,” a title to track produced by Oscar-nominated Ibon Cormenzana (“Robot Dreams”), which Sideral will release in Spanish theaters.
