Silent Witness lovebirds Dr Nikki Alexander and Jack Hodgson bid farewell to London with a slow dance in Trafalgar Square.
In a dramatic end to the latest series pathologist Dr Nikki Alexander (Emilia Fox) and forensic expert Jack Hodgson (David Caves) finally said 'I do' in an intimate wedding ceremony. The scenes which aired on Tuesday, 4 February paid tribute to the capital as the show prepares to move to the West Midlands from next year.
Fans of the show were in tears as they celebrated the romantic finale to Nikki and Jack's love story calling it the "perfect ending" to the series.
What, how, and why?
Nikki and Jack became engaged in the last series of Silent Witness following a nine-year-long 'will they, won't they?' storyline. It was previously revealed that production of the long-running BBC crime drama was set to move to Birmingham, and as Nikki and Jack made their wedding plans, Nikki revealed the Home Office had asked her to set up a new centre of excellence in Birmingham.
After solving their latest case, the pair lay naked in bed together. Nikki told Jack: "We don't have to do the big wedding. I don't need the crowd, the bridesmaids the big fuss, I just need you."
Jack replied: I just want it to be perfect for you."
Nikki told him: "I'm marrying you — how can that be anything less than perfect?"
Jack exclaimed: "So why are we waiting — let's get married!"
Nikki was then seen asking crime analyst Kit Brooks (Francesca Mills) to be her witness while Jack asked their new boss Professor Harriet Maven (Maggie Steed) if she would be his best man.
The pair were then shown on their wedding day about to head in to the ceremony to become husband and wife. As Jack tried to hurry his bride-to-be in to the ceremony, Nikki mused: "I was just thinking. The registrar asked me who was giving me away. So it made me think brides were given away. Then I was thinking, I'm giving myself away. I'm giving myself to you. I hadn't told you that, and I wanted to tell you.
"And I was thinking — I've held the hearts of so many people in my hands. As a scientist, I know every detail of the human heart, and yet for so long my own has been a mystery to me.
