Simeonie Salomonie faces charges following taxi theft
RCMP have charged an Iqaluit man following an accident on Friday night that sent five people to hospital.
Simeonie Salomonie is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, impaired operation of a motor vehicle and assaulting a peace officer.
On Friday night, witnesses saw a man steal a Pai-pa taxi that was left idling in front of the Iqaluit Legion.
A short time later, the vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Caribou Cab van in front of the Nunavut Court of Justice.
Both vehicles were destroyed.
The five people in both taxis were treated and released from hospital.
