(UPDATE, 4 JUNE: The MCCY said that the closing date for registration of interest for a complimentary National Flag has been extended to 7 June.)

SINGAPORE — Singaporeans and permanent residents who wish to display the national flag during the COVID-19 outbreak but are unable to get one can now register for a complimentary flag to be mailed to them.

These flags will be distributed by the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth (MCCY) and each household can apply online from Wednesday (27 May) till 7 June for one free flag per household.

“Flying our flag is an act of solidarity,” said the MCCY in a Facebook post on Wednesday, adding that it has received feedback that some people have been unable to get a flag.

As part of a community initiative, the Singapore Arms and Flag and National Anthem (SAFNA) rules were amended in April after the MCCY said it received requests from the public to allow them to display the flag, as a “demonstration of unity and solidarity” during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The amended rules allow every Singaporean household to display the national flag without a flagpole and night illumination from now until the end of the National Day celebrations period on 30 September.

The MCCY said that while flags are subject to availability, more will be available during the National Day celebration period.

Those who are interested to get a flag can register at https://go.gov.sg/registrationforsgflag.
