SIU investigates after stun-gun arrest sends man to hospital

The Special Investigations Unit is investigating after an arrest made by the Toronto Police Service Emergency Task Force ended with a 27-year-old man being sent to hospital.

Emergency Task Force Officers went to a rooming house on Warden Avenue north of Danforth Ave. around 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

They entered a room inside the house and deployed two "conducted energy weapons" — commonly known as Tasers or stun guns.

A 27-year-old was arrested and then taken to hospital with a leg injury.

Earlier that night, police had investigated an assault at the same rooming home. They found an injured 58-year-old man, who was sent to hospital.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator are looking into the incident.

The SIU investigates whenever police are involved in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. Its mandate is to investigate whether an officer has committed a criminal offence, and whether charges should be laid.
