Calgary skateboarder dies after being hit by Jeep

A 23-year-old man died after colliding with a Jeep in the city's south end.

A Calgary man has died from his injuries after being hit by a Jeep while skateboarding at Heritage Drive and MacLeod Trail.

Police said the 23-year-old man was hit by the vehicle when he entered the intersection as the lights changed.

He appeared to be crossing against the signal, according to police, and the Jeep was proceeding on a green light through the intersection.

The man suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, but later died. He was not wearing a helmet.

The 37-year-old woman driving the 2012 Jeep Wrangler was not injured.

Neither speed nor alcohol are considered to be factors in this collision, say police, and charges are not anticipated at this time.

Southbound traffic on MacLeod Trail was shut down late Friday night.
