SLO County community market scam asks for payments via Venmo. Here’s what to avoid

The Grover Beach Police Department is warning residents about a social media scam that is asking for money to be sent via Venmo.

According to a social media post from the agency, there have been multiple reports of a scam asking residents to sign up for a community market at the Grover Beach Community Center.

The city is not hosting a market at the center, police said, and is not requesting payments via Venmo.

Police urge residents to not send money or give information if they see the post on social media.
