How a small change could save British staycationers hundreds of pounds

<p>Short breaks in the UK have surged in popularity because of COVID-19 travel restrictions - but opting for towns and cities off the beaten track can bring big savings.</p><p>In one case, Which? Travel said tourists could save £43 a night by staying in a seaside town just three miles away from a popular destination on the Pembrokeshire coast.</p><p>The consumer group also revealed that many of these cheaper destinations have also received greater customer satisfaction scores.</p><p>Salcombe hotel rooms tend to cost £59 a night more than those in nearby Dartmouth - but Dartmouth has a customer satisfaction score of 84% for its scenery and tourist attractions, outranking Salcombe on 71%.</p><p>Which? Travel editor Rory Boland said: "These destination swaps aren't just a chance to save money - travellers can expect to find fewer crowds and more space to breathe, with holidaymakers ranking many of the cheaper destinations as not only better value, but a better overall stay than their pricier and more popular counterparts.</p><p>"As we come towards the end of a holiday season like no other, holidaymakers will be pleased to learn they can still squeeze the last out of the summer without sacrificing beautiful scenery or great attractions by just travelling a few extra miles along the road."</p><p><strong>Here are the savings that could be made through destination swapping...</strong></p><p></p>
