SmartHalo Gadget Turns Any Bike Into A Smart Bike

A new gadget that turns any bike into a smart bike has already reached its target on crowd-funding site Kickstarter after just one day.

The SmartHalo sits on top of the bike’s handlebars using a ‘military-grade locking system’ and tracks distance, calories burned, elevation and security, all of which can be monitored on a dedicated smartphone app.

The Kickstarter total of $67,000 has already been smashed, with pledges already beyond the $125,000 mark.

The gadget’s security function uses GPS to track the user’s bike in case it gets stolen or they simply forgot where they parked it.

There’s no need for the cyclist to turn it off and it will sense when they’ve stopped and dismounted and deactivate automatically.

The device also includes a built-in alarm to deter any would-be bike thieves.

The intuitive navigation system is designed to provide the quickest, safest route, which directions communicated using the gadget’s light-up ‘halo’.

The new gadget from Cyclelabs has an estimated delivery of May 2016 and it currently available for $131 (£85) while the full retail price will be $149 (£96).
