These“ SNL” Stars Had an Inkling About Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce 'Before They Dated'
'Saturday Night Live' comedy trio Please Don't Destroy worked with both the pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end before the pair got together
Before Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s “Love Story” unfolded, three Saturday Night Live cast members could tell that they would be a good match!
On a recent episode of Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out podcast, SNL's beloved comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy revealed that Swift, 34, once told them that she had seen their skit with Kelce, 34, and it convinced her that he had a great sense of humor.
Ben Marshall — who makes up one-third of Please Don’t Destroy, along with Martin Herlihy and John Higgins — joked on the podcast that they “brought” the couple “a little bit together.”

“We worked with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce before they got together,” Marshall, 28, said, referring to the pop superstar’s appearance in their November 2021 sketch “Three Sad Virgins” and their March 2023 video with the Kansas City Chief tight end, “Self-Defense.”
The comedian continued, “She kind of told us that she watched his SNL episode and saw him in our video and was like, ‘This guy seems funny.’”
He added that they considered telling the story when they appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon several months ago.
“We were thinking about maybe saying that on Fallon and then we were like, ‘I think that if then they break up, we will somehow be, like, pitted as causing this disaster,’” the comic actor said while laughing. “It’s just a very precarious situation. People have such strong feelings about them.”
The trio also reflected on how when Swift appeared on the sketch show in 2021 as the musical guest, she “nailed it” when she joined them in a skit with Pete Davidson.
Higgins, 28, recalled that it was “scarier” to pitch the idea to the Grammy winner than film it, considering the concept was her and Davidson, 30, ceaselessly making fun of Please Don’t Destroy for being “three sad virgins.” He explained that the hitmaker was “excited about” the skit and said, “When she came on set, [the song she recorded] sounded so fun and good, and she’s such a good actress and performer that it was just like two takes.”
Kelce, meanwhile, collaborated with Please Don’t Destroy on a skit when he hosted SNL in March 2023. In the three-time Super Bowl champion’s hilarious clip with the three writers/performers, he played an inspirational, self-defense coach who has a questionable method and ends up knocking them out.

Shortly after Swift and Kelce went public with their relationship last fall, the couple attended the season 49 premiere of SNL in October to support their friends as well as the show’s host and musical guest, Davidson and Ice Spice. Following the show’s taping, the two also stepped out for the after party together.
Since then, the musician and the athlete have gotten even more serious, taking their romance to the Super Bowl and international dates of Swift’s Eras Tour.
Shortly after Kelce and the Chiefs won Super Bowl LVIII, a source told PEOPLE that the pair is in a great place. “It's been the best few months for them,” the insider shared.
