Power restored for thousands in eastern P.E.I.
Maritime Electric has repaired an outage that had almost 6,000 customers in southeastern P.E.I. without power Friday morning.
The power went out as snow fell in Kings County at about 7 a.m. It was restored about three hours later.
That outage closed the Montague family of schools for the day.
Maritime Electric has not reported the cause of the problem.
Meanwhile, the overnight snowfall delayed the opening of schools across the province by one hour.
Environment Canada recorded 3.5 centimetres of snow at Charlottetown Airport Thursday, and school officials wanted to give plows a little more time to clear slippery secondary roads.
Early Friday morning, snow plow dispatchers said plows were out all night and salters and sanders are at work this morning.
Most roads are clear, but in Kings County they are snow-covered and slushy in places with snow still falling.
