Snow forecast: Great Lakes bracing for heavy snowfall this week as more lake effect looms
More lake effect snow is on the way, including in western Michigan where the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts snowfall Tuesday night, which will expand in coverage and intensity on Wednesday, slowing commutes.
Active lake effect snow is forecasted to begin on Wednesday and continue through Thursday downwind of the Great Lakes, according to the NWS.
In Cleveland, rain will enter from the south Tuesday, ahead of a cold front, the NWS said. A stronger cold front is expected to move through the area on Wednesday and bring more rain that will change to snow, meteorologists say.
"The cold front associated with this rapidly intensifying system will become rather potent as it sweeps across the East Coast during the day on Wednesday," the NWS forecast says. "There is potential for some very strong thunderstorms to form ahead of the front together with heavy downpours."
"Meanwhile, drastically colder air behind the front is forecast to produce accumulating snowfall up the western slopes of the Appalachians on Wednesday together with blustery northwesterly winds. The snow will then sweep across interior New England through Wednesday night into Thursday morning."
