Snow mucks up morning commute, causes crashes across city

Police were called to 20 separate collisions on Edmonton's snowy, blustery roads Thursday morning.

Only one person was hurt in a crash, while four other collisions involved a hit and run.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park, telling residents to expect between 20 and 30 centimetres of snow throughout the day and into Friday.

Winds out of the northeast are expected to create blustery conditions in open areas and along major highways.

The snow dump is the result of a major Pacific system moving into central Alberta — but the wintry weather won't end there. Environment Canada says a frigid Arctic blast will follow the snow, dropping daytime highs well below normal by the weekend.
