Solar panel scam takes victims for $1 million, say Windsor police
A 46-year-old Lasalle man has been charged with 44 fraud-related offenses for entering into a series of solar panel installation contracts without completing the work.
Several victims were taken for an estimated $1 million, according to investigators from the Windsor Police financial crimes unit.
Officers conducted what they call a "lengthy investigation" that revealed the man entered into several contracts to build large solar power systems under the Ontario Feed-in Tariff program. He often started the installations, but never completed the work for any of the agreements.
Police believe there may be other victims. Anyone with information is asked to call 519-255-6700 ext. 4330 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
