Not everyone is happy that Sophia Bush is sharing what was behind her decision to leave NBC’s Chicago P.D. last year.
The actress explained Friday that she’s been asked why she chose to speak out about alleged abuse on the set at this moment. Earlier in the week, she told Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast that the show, which she joined in 2014, was hard on her both physically and emotionally.
She said life on the drama series was “a consistent onslaught, a barrage of abusive behavior.” Being on the show felt like she was “standing butt naked, bruised and bleeding in the middle of Times Square, screaming at the top of my lungs and not a single person stopped to ask if they could help me,” Bush said. She noted that she filed complaints, but nothing was done until they reached the head of the network, who then let her out of her seven-year contract.
Bush said during the same interview that producers on her former CW show, One Tree Hill, were “really deeply inappropriate” to her following her split from co-star Chad Michael Murray in 2005.
She addressed the feedback that she’s received from her comments on social media, emphasizing that she’s always told the truth.
Bush also responded to critics who accused her of staying silent on the issue in the past, providing multiple examples of times she has spoken up about the mistreatment of women.
In her lengthy post, the #TimesUp co-founder mentioned Hilarie Burton, her friend and former co-star on One Tree Hill. Bush said Burton tells her that she’s so strong, she has a “titanium spine,” which Bush said was “forged in fire.”
“I am not a woman that you will ever reduce,” she wrote. “Not one iota. None of us are.”
Fans encouraged Bush to stay brave and strong.
