Soros to Contribute $2 Million to Left-Leaning Groups

George Soros, the billionaire financier who has poured tens of millions of dollars into previous elections, has waded into the 2012 race in what is – at least for him – a modest way, according to The New York Times.

Soros will donate $1 million each to America Votes, which coordinates election activity for liberal groups, and American Bridge 21st Century, a super PAC that focuses on opposition research on conservatives.

The $2 million in contributions is likely being made in the hope of attracting other donors, The Times reports. Soros, whose net worth is estimated at $20 billion, according to Forbes, donated $23.7 million to Democrats in 2004, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, but only $5 million in 2008.
