South African Deputy President Recovers After Medical Attention

(Bloomberg) -- South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile is well after receiving medical attention because he felt faint while delivering a speech, his spokesman said.

Mashatile, 62, started feeling lightheaded toward the end of an address in the northeastern town of Tzaneen on Saturday, his spokesman Keith Khoza said in remarks broadcast on Johannesburg-based eNCA.

“The deputy president has received the necessary medical attention and is well,” Khoza said in a statement sent by mobile text message.

The temperature in Tzaneen, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) northeast of the capital, Pretoria, reached as high as 37 degrees C on Saturday, according to AccuWeather.
